We have had to reorganise the bird feeding area in our back
yard today because the blackbirds have found the bananas at long last and
decided they like them! The poor little
waxeyes were getting chased away and they didn’t like that one little bit.
However a solution has been found and the bananas are now hanging back in the
tree where the blackbirds don’t seem to bother with them.
I do see another problem arising very soon too. The ponga
fern is growing a new set of fronds at a great rate of speed and when they open
up they are going to block my view of the birds from my office desk. This time
it might mean moving the desk! Thinking about it though, it will mean I can sit
at my desk with my camera and easily photograph the action.
Now that I have so many waxeye photos to choose from in my
library, I am wanting to challenge myself a little bit more. I am going to try
and capture them in flight. Ok so I have done this once or twice already but I
have yet to get an image I am happy with, so that is the challenge. I need lots
of sunshine to be able to do this as the lens works best with lots of light and
I am going to need a really fast shutter speed for these fast little birds. So
here’s hoping for a bright and sunny summer!
